Dir. Pete Docter. 2015, 95 mins. DCP. With the voices of Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Richard Kind, Bill Hader, Lewis Black, Mindy Kaling, Kaitlyn Dias, Diane Lane, Frank Oz, Dave Goelz, Kyle MacLachlan. Oscar-winning writer, director, and animator Pete Docter (Toy Story; Monsters, Inc.; Up; Wall-E; Soul) takes us inside the mind of Riley, an 11-year-old girl whose emotions are plunged into chaos after she moves to a new home. Five emotions are hard at work, led by light-hearted optimist Joy (Poehler), who strives to make sure Riley stays happy as she operates alongside fellow emotions Fear (Hader), Anger (Black), Disgust (Kaling), and Sadness (Davis). Oz and fellow Henson associate Goelz play Dave and Frank, respectably, two bumbling and squabbling security guards who fail to control Joy and Bing Bong (Kind), Riley’s imaginary friend.
Tickets: $15 / $11 senior and students / $9 youth (ages 3–17) / free for MoMI members at the Senior/Student level and above. There is a $1.50 transaction fee per ticket for all online purchases. The cost of admission may be applied toward a same-day purchase of a membership.
