From Dreams to Business: The Artistic Journey of Talisa Almonte

Saturday, Feb 1, 2025 at 2:00 pm

Location: William Fox Amphitheater

Join us for a free engaging talk presented by MoMI’s Neighborhood Council with Talisa Almonte, an Afro-Dominican artist, illustrator, and muralist based in Queens, whose Yoda One greeting card (see below) will be sold in our Moving Image Shop.

Talisa will share her inspiring journey from working in the fashion industry for more than seven years at brands like Victoria’s Secret, Pink, and Gap to launching her own creative business, Almonte Studio, in March 2021. Talisa’s story is rooted in her father’s legacy, whose early influence sparked her artistic path and continues to resonate through her work. From designing for large brands like Target, Lucasfilm, Disney+, Buzzballz, the LA Times, and Coachella to collaborating with local small businesses and city projects, her work reflects the vibrancy of Latino heritage, the energy of New York City, and a commitment to making the world brighter. Her art serves as more than visual beauty—it’s a call to celebrate individuality, diversity, and empowerment.

Cindy Cortez, founder of NewTownHQ and MoMI’s Neighborhood Council member, will join the conversation to explore what stores look for in vendors and how artists like Talisa can tailor their pitches to stand out.
