Expanded Screens Program 3: The New Avant-Garde

This program highlights some of the most formally ambitious voices in today’s video essay avant-garde. Rooted in experimental cinema, the essay film, and documentary traditions, these makers challenge and play with our understanding of audiovisual media and the environments in which we use and experience them. Subjects range from contemporary political crises to media phenomena like “doomscrolling,” feminist rage, and the datafication of daily life.
