Death at a Funeral
Saturday, Nov 30 at 1:00 p.m.
Location: Redstone Theater
Dir. Frank Oz. 2007, 87 mins. DCP. With Matthew Macfadyen, Rupert Graves, Ewen Bremner, Peter Dinklage, Kris Marshall, Alan Tudyk. Oz expanded his repertoire further with this ode to the English Ealing comedy, an antic farce set at the funeral of a British patriarch. Though his brother Robert (Graves) is a man of enormous wealth, he leaves the funeral costs and arrangements to Daniel (Macfadyen), a family man of limited means. As Daniel dashes about greeting friends and family, Robert takes what he thinks is valium but turns out to be a hallucinogenic drug. Meanwhile a strange American man (Dinklage) arrives, threatening to share intimate secrets about their father in hopes of blackmailing his way into the will. The film was remade by Hollywood just three years later in a version starring Chris Rock and directed by Neil LaBute.
