Ben, a cantor (Jason Schwartzman) in a crisis of faith, finds his world turned upside down when his grade-school music teacher Carla (Carol Kane) re-enters his life as his new adult bat mitzvah student. Carla gives Ben a much-needed kick in the ass, inspiring him to reconnect with humanity while, simultaneously, he leads her to reconnect with her faith. Featuring a pair of richly humane performances from Kane and Schwartzman, the latest film from Nathan Silver (Stinking Heaven) is filled with spontaneous energy and oddball humor.
