Introduced by Robert Kapsis, editor, Conversations with Steve Martin
Dir. Carl Reiner. 1979, 94 mins. 35mm. With Steve Martin, Bernadette Peters.
For his first starring role in a feature film, Steve Martin expanded one of his standup comedy routines, about a nitwit who grows up as “a poor black child” and decides to become white. The screening will be introduced by Queens College professor Robert E. Kapsis, editor of the new book Conversations with Steve Martin (University Press of Mississippi, 2014), a collection of interviews and profiles that focus on Martin as a writer, comedian, actor, artist, and original thinker, for a period spanning over four decades. The screening will be followed by a book signing in the Museum Store. Preceded by short film The Absent Minded Waiter (Dir. Carl Gottlieb. 1977, 7 mins. 35mm. With Steve Martin).
Tickets are included with paid Museum admission on a first-come, first-served basis. Members at the Film Lover level and above may reserve tickets in advance.
