Dir. John Badham. 1977, 118 mins. 35mm. With John Travolta, Karen Lynn Gorney, Barry Miller. A star is born in the opening minutes of Saturday Night Fever, as Travolta struts down the streets of Bay Ridge, playing the restless Tony Manero, who works at a hardware store in the daytime and rules the disco dance floor at night. The film was more than a hit; it was a pop culture phenomenon, along with the Bee Gees soundtrack album.
