Last Conversations (Ultimas Conversas)

Ongoing

Dir. Eduardo Coutinho. 2015, 88 mins. Digital projection. New York premiere. Eduardo Coutinho (1933-2014) was one of the most original voices in the history of Brazilian cinema. His last film is a deceptively simple and arresting portrait of teenage life. A series of conversations with young carioca students about their dreams, troubles and desires, the film was finished posthumously by his partner, Jordana Berg, and by producer João Moreira Salles. “Coutinho didn’t have time to put together what would turn out to be his last film,” explains Salles. “It’s all about conversations with young people who have their whole life ahead of them…that circumstance makes the poignancy of Last Conversations even greater.”
